nDo ALPHANOVA SUN sunscreens protect the skin against both harmful UVA and UVB rays?
n
nYes. Alphanova Sun sun care products provide the skin with complete protection against both harmful UVA and UVB rays.
n
nIs it possible to tan and get brown at all when using SPF50 sunscreen?
n
nYes, it is. SPF… and the number following it indicate how long the cream provides protection against the SUN’S HARMFUL UVA and UVB rays, in other words how long it is possible to stay in the sun without getting burned. Usually, 1 SPF equals 10–15 minutes. For people with lighter and sensitive skin, this time may be even shorter. At the same time, no SPF protects against 100% of harmful rays. SPF50 blocks 98% of harmful rays, SPF30 blocks 97% of rays, SPF15 blocks 93% of rays. Despite this, it is recommended to reapply sunscreen at least every two hours, regardless of the SPF level, because wind, seawater, and sand can reduce the sunscreen’s protective effect.
n
nWhy prefer mineral filters over chemical filters?
n
nSunscreens with chemical filters contain chemical compounds as sun protection filters that are absorbed into the skin and damage it. Baby and children’s sunscreens also contain chemical filters. Creams that are hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. There are also sunscreens that contain both chemical and mineral filters. Therefore, we always recommend looking closely at the ingredients before buying sunscreen.
n
nThe best-known chemical sunscreen filters and their negative properties in addition to sun protection:
n
-
n
- octocrylene – when this chemical comes into contact with UV light, it absorbs the rays and creates oxygen radicals that can damage cells and cause mutations. It is easily absorbed into the skin and may remain in the body for a long time. In addition, it may be toxic to the environment.
- oxybenzone – causes skin allergies. Destroys corals. Affects humans on a hormonal level by affecting estrogen production in women and testosterone production in men.
- homosalate – may damage DNA and hormones.
- octinoxate – may cause allergies, dermatitis, and acne.

nWhy do mineral sunscreens leave a white layer on the skin? Do all mineral sunscreens leave a white layer on the skin?
n
nIn mineral sunscreens, the filters that protect against the sun’s harmful rays, such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, leave a white layer on the skin. The larger the particle diameter, the more likely it is to leave a white layer on the skin. The formation of a white layer also depends on the cream’s other ingredients. If different oils are used in the cream, it is easier to spread on the skin and the formation of a white layer is reduced (a very light layer still remains). However, this same white layer protects you and your children from sunburn and harmful rays. With mineral sunscreens, it is important to shake the cream before use so that all the oils and filters mix together! Even if the cream is in a tube, still shake it!
