Should babies wear sunglasses?
The eyes of babies and children must be carefully protected from harmful sun rays, especially on hot sunny summer days, as their protective ability is low: a child’s eye pupil is wide, the lens is crystal clear, and moreover, they look more upwards than adults. Children are at greater risk for eye damage caused by excessive sun exposure.
Do regular dark lenses also protect babies’ eyes?
It is not the dark lens that protects eyes from sunlight but the UV protection. Wearing glasses with simply darkened lenses without UV protection is extremely dangerous for the eyes, as the natural eye protection functions: squinting and pupil contraction do not work with dark lenses. As a result, significantly more UV light enters the eye than being without sunglasses.
